Arsenal kept their Premier League title hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. The win extended their unbeaten league run to 15 games, but it came with challenges due to injuries to key attackers.
Before the match, Arsenal suffered a major blow when it was confirmed that Kai Havertz would miss the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury. With Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka also sidelined, manager Mikel Arteta had to improvise. He deployed Leandro Trossard as a makeshift centre-forward, flanked by out-of-form Raheem Sterling and 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri.
The first half saw Arsenal struggle to create chances, with their best opportunity coming from a Declan Rice header that went wide. Leicester, too, were limited in attack, though Wilfried Ndidi forced a save from David Raya and later missed a header just before halftime.
In the second half, the intensity of the match increased. Nwaneri emerged as Arsenal’s most dangerous player, nearly scoring with a long-range effort that clipped the crossbar. He later struck the post with another powerful attempt, underlining his growing influence on the game.
The breakthrough finally came when Nwaneri delivered a precise cross into the box, where substitute Mikel Merino rose to head the ball into the net. Just six minutes later, Merino struck again, calmly finishing from Trossard’s cross at the far post to seal the win.
With this victory, Arsenal moved within four points of league leaders Liverpool, who are set to play Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. Meanwhile, Leicester’s struggles continued, as they remained in the relegation zone after suffering their fifth consecutive league defeat without scoring a goal.
